Toronto FC Players Allowed To Train In Canada Until Playoffs

Toronto FC players will be allowed to practice at the club's BMO Training Ground in Toronto leading up to their first game of the MLS Cup playoffs, "under strict testing and safety protocols, which will include being tested every other day," according to Steve Buffery of the TORONTO SUN. TFC President Bill Manning said that players, coaches and support staff "will essentially go from their homes to the BMO Training Ground and back home until it’s time to head down to Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., for Round One of the playoffs on Nov. 24." Buffery reports Manning was "able to negotiate" with MLS and "various levels of government in Canada to allow his team to train at home for the first time in weeks." Because of quarantine rules, the three Canadian MLS teams have had to relocate to the U.S. for both training and games this fall for the final part of the MLS regular season. TFC coach Greg Vanney, who is "loathe to make excuses for sub-par performances, admitted last week that training and playing ‘home’ games away from home 'definitely hurt us' in the final few weeks of the schedule" (TORONTO SUN, 11/12).
