College Notes: Mizzou Basketball To Host 3,000 Fans

In K.C., Souichi Terada reports the Univ. of Missouri will host "about 3,000 fans" for basketball games this season at Mizzou Arena, which has a capacity of 15,061. Mizzou Deputy AD/External Operations Ryan Alpert said, "We have our lower bowl, our club and premium spaces, and we have the upper area. With that, we’ve kind of created zones in itself. Concourses large enough where we think 3,000 in the (15,000-person) building provides enough space and access to restrooms and concessions." The school "hasn't announced yet who will be able to purchase tickets" (K.C. STAR, 11/6).

NO FANS IN QUEENS TO START: On Long Island, Roger Rubin reports St. John’s will begin its men’s and women’s basketball seasons "without admitting fans," but the school "hopes it will be able to admit spectators for games later in the season." St. John's is "offering three options for season-ticker holders: They may request a full reimbursement; they are allowing the payment to be applied to the 2021-22 season to preserve seat locations; and they may be donated as contributions with a non-specified reward." Fans also can "purchase an official Red Storm cutout" at Carnesecca Arena (NEWSDAY, 11/6).

SAVED FROM ELIMINATION: William & Mary "completed a reversal" by allowing "four men's varsity teams slated for elimination after this academic year to compete" in D-I through at least '21-22 school. W&M President Katherine Rowe announced the "reinstatement of men’s indoor and outdoor track and field, swimming and gymnastics." In Virginia, Marty O'Brien notes the three women’s teams proposed for elimination -- gymnastics, swimming and volleyball -- were reinstated on Oct. 19 to "avoid a Title IX gender equity lawsuit" (Norfolk VIRGINIAN-PILOT, 11/6).
