On The Radio: DC Personality Chad Dukes Fired From WJFK-FM

In DC, Scott Allen reports longtime local radio host Chad Dukes "has been fired" from WJFK-FM. The station's parent company, Entercom, sent the news out late Thursday in an emailed statement, after it "learned of 'racist and other inappropriate comments' he made" on his personal podcast. It is "unclear what specific comments led to Dukes' dismissal." In addition to hosting "Chad Dukes Vs. the World" on WJFK's weekday afternoon drive-time slot since '14, Dukes "co-hosted the 'Rodkast' podcast" as late as September '19, and he co-hosts the "Big O and Dukes" podcast (WASHINGTON POST, 10/30).

STATION NEAR A SALE: In St. Louis, Dan Caesar reports negotiations to sell KFNS-AM "have advanced to the stage that the potential new owners are making multiple programming moves, and signs are intensifying that two big names in the local sports media landscape -- Bernie Miklasz and Steve Savard -- soon will end up on the radio station." KFNS co-Owner Randy Markel on Thursday said that he is in the "final phase of selling it to a group" formed by KFNS Sports Dir John Hadley. Final FCC approval "probably would not happen until early next year" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 10/30).

MARRIED TO THE JOB: Shae Peppler Cornette and Jordan Cornette, who host ESPN Radio’s “GameDay” each Sunday during the NFL season from 1:00-5:00pm ET, are the “first married couple to co-host a national ESPN Radio show.” Peppler Cornette said, “There are natural arguments when we are on radio together that we also have in our house because we’re so comfortable with each other.” Cornette: “We are two sports fans who love what’s playing out in front of us, that are married, and are around each other now 24/7. So sometimes that rears an ugly head, which makes for beautiful radio” (THEATHLETIC.com, 10/30).
