NHLPA Exec Group Meets, But Still Unsure What '20-21 Will Look Like

The NHLPA Exec Committee had a “lengthy meeting” yesterday, the first one since June, though for now they remain "short on answers because still so much work and so many meetings to be had to determine the 2021 season," according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun. There also are going to be "team-by-team meetings held by the NHLPA throughout the week so that all 700+ players get to ask questions." TSN's Darren Dreger said the NHL "continues to work on as many as six playing scenarios" for the '20-21 season, including a Canadian division and "what that might look like." Dreger explained it "could be just one city, one hub that houses all seven Canadian teams, but there are some big concerns over what happens if you start that way and the world gets healthier and you have to flip back to normal divisional play inside a regular season." Dreger: "Logistically, that could be a nightmare." He added one "could see two hubs in the United States if the Canadian restrictions don’t soften moving forward." Meanwhile, LeBrun said the NHLPA had "fought hard" for having the league allow players to participate in the Olympics, but there "haven’t been any conversations between the NHL and the NHLPA ever since that new CBA was announced with the Olympic news in it." LeBrun said the two sides have had "bigger fish to fry" in getting this season started and completed and planning for next season (“Insider Trading," TSN, 10/27).
