New Jackson State football coach DEION SANDERS "will make $300,000 annually beginning Dec. 1 and ending on Dec. 1, 2024." Sanders "will net" $1.2M from his base contract. He also has "ticket sales provisions in his contract." For any home game in which Jackson State "sells more than 30,000 tickets, Sanders will be paid 10% of the revenue from those sales." He also will be "paid 10% of the season ticket revenue if Jackson State sells more than 10,000 season ticket packages for a season" (Jackson CLARION LEDGER, 10/16). 

INDICTMENT IN SKAGGS CASE: A federal grand jury in Texas has indicted former Angels employee ERIC KAY on "two felony counts in the overdose death of pitcher TYLER SKAGGS." The indictment charges Kay with "distributing the fentanyl that resulted in Skaggs’ death" in July last year. It also "alleges Kay and unspecified 'others' conspired to 'possess with the intent to distribute' ... fentanyl 'beginning in or before 2017.'" Kay, who "worked in the Angels’ media relations department for 24 years," was arrested in August (L.A. TIMES, 10/17).

IN MEMORY: Longtime Rockets scout BJ JOHNSON passed away Thursday at 65 in a "cycling accident in Houston." Johnson was "popular around the league for his affable personality and made everyone around him feel welcome and comfortable" (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/18).
