Over the last four years, Pera has "pieced together a collection of properties across the country, including at least four for a combined" roughly $70M. He has purchased real estate in "some of the most expensive and exclusive buildings in both New York and Seattle, and is building a brand-new mansion on a highly exclusive island in Miami Beach" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/16).

NAMES49ers CEO JED YORK has "dropped another $950,000 into the four-seat Santa Clara City Council race on November’s ballot, bringing his total donations to the independent expenditure committee he created to influence the election" to $2.35M. His Citizens for Efficient Government and Full Voting Rights committee "isn’t just hoarding its war chest, either." It has spent more than $2.2M in "TV and Internet advertising, mailers and yard signs" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/15)....Former NHL exec BRIAN BURKE recently penned a memoir: "Burke’s Law, A Life in Hockey." A portion of the book is "adapted from his diary" that he has kept since winning the Stanley Cup in '07 with the Ducks. Some of it is "written in his own words, and some of it dictated." Burke "collaborated with award-winning writer" STEPHEN BRUNT on the memoir (CALGARY HERALD, 10/16). 

IN MEMORY: ESPN Falcons reporter VAUGHN MCCLURE, a former Bears reporter for the Chicago Tribune, died at 48. ESPN on Thursday announced that McClure "died this week at his Atlanta-area home." The date and cause "were not mentioned" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/16).
