Source: Raiders, City of Las Vegas Offer To Host '24 Super Bowl

Allegiant Stadium may host the Super Bowl in '25 after New Orleans had conflicts with Mardi GrasGETTY IMAGES

The Raiders and Las Vegas have "offered to host Super Bowl LVIII," according to a source cited by Bonsignore & Hill of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. The push comes as the NFL yesterday announced that New Orleans, which was to host the game in '24, "will delay its turn" until '25 for Super Bowl LIX "because of conflicts with Mardi Gras." NFL Exec VP/Club Business & League events Peter O'Reilly said that Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium "will be well-received as a candidate for the 2024 Super Bowl." Bonsignore & Hill report the league is "targeting" '21 to announce a replacement city. And while the decision "ultimately will rest with the league’s 32 owners, the attraction and viability of Las Vegas to accommodate the league’s signature event is well-known." O'Reilly: "The opportunity to do that in Las Vegas … to do that on a big stage throughout Super Bowl week and then culminating in a beautiful Allegiant Stadium, those obviously would be points that I’m sure a Las Vegas and the Raiders will be making if they enter this process." O’Reilly "would not name other cities that might express interest in hosting" Super Bowl LVIII. However, a league source indicated that Dallas and Miami are "expected to be candidates" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 10/15).

FORESIGHT FROM NOLA COMMITTEE: In New Orleans, Luke Johnson noted the possibility of the Super Bowl "being pushed back a year was actually built into the original agreement when New Orleans' 2024 bid was accepted back in 2018." The new CBA, signed this offseason, introduced a 17th regular-season game to the schedule starting in '21, which "extended the season by a week, and brought on the conflict." Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation President & CEO Jay Cicero said, "We made sure to guarantee that New Orleans would not lose the event all together if the scenario played out" (NOLA.com, 10/14).
