Lions Hopeful On Fans' Return Despite State Orders

The Lions are "still 'very hopeful' they can host some fans at games this season, perhaps as soon as their Nov. 1 matchup" against the Colts at Ford Field, according to Kyle Meinke of MLIVE.com. But Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s latest "COVID-related orders, which opened indoor venues such as theaters and bowling alleys, continue to prohibit indoor gatherings of more than 500 people." She has said that she "doesn’t intend to carve out exceptions anytime soon." Whitmer: “We’re not going to make a special exception for professional football. ... I know there are some who would like to get in person to the Lions game. I’m just glad that you can still partake and support the team by watching them on television." Meinke notes the Lions already have "outfitted Ford Field with many COVID-era safety enhancements," including "installing 250 touchless hand sanitizer dispensers, a new air filtration system, plexiglass barriers and electrostatic sprayers" (MLIVE.com, 9/28).

STEELERS TO SPEAK WITH CITY: In Pittsburgh, Aaron Martin reported Steelers officials "will be speaking with the Pennsylvania Department of Health this week about allowing fans back in Heinz Field." A team spokesperson "confirmed the call but did not say exactly when it will take place." The team last week said that they were "'optimistic' that a limited amount of fans could return for home games in October" (WPXI.com, 9/28).
