Syracuse's Renovated Carrier Dome Unveiling Muted Without Fans

Syracuse hopes to host a limited number of fans at the Carrier Dome at some pointGETTY IMAGES

Syracuse Univ. will unveil a renovated Carrier Dome this weekend when the school’s football team hosts Georgia Tech, but the "full effect of the new building won’t be felt until a key piece" is allowed inside: fans, according to Nate Mink of the Syracuse POST-STANDARD. Syracuse AD John Wildhack and his team "stand ready with proposals to accommodate fans, but he’s unsure when that day will come." Syracuse is scheduled to host five more football games this fall while basketball schedules are "still in the works." Wildhack "remains hopeful there will be an opportunity to host a limited-capacity crowd in the new dome before the calendar year is up." Mink notes when Syracuse announced plans for the $118M improvements to the dome, it "winked at the potential for a second round of renovations for the project." Wildhack did "not say whether the university has committed to any specific future enhancements." However, there are "more planned improvements already financed that are expected to be completed by 2022, including restrooms and new concessions spaces" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 9/25).
