South Beach's Best: Jimmy Butler Looks To Trademark Coffee Concept

Heat F Jimmy Butler is working with a legal firm to trademark Big Face Coffee, the name of the “impromptu coffee shop he set up in his Disney World hotel room amid the NBA’s quarantine bubble,” according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida SUN-SENTINEL. A trademark filing dated Sept. 4 includes a detailed description of the Big Face Coffee logo and protection for various kinds of apparel, housewares, “general café items” and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Bernie Lee, Butler’s agent, said that after a picture taken by Heat C Meyers Leonard showing a sign for Big Face Coffee went viral, a “proactive approach became necessary.” Lee: “Once the picture went out, I started noticing, I think we all started noticing, people trying to like jump on it. And I think before somebody else did it, [Butler] definitely did it just to protect himself.” Lee added of the filing, “Say he takes this down the line and he opens his own coffee shop, it potentially covers them for anything that can be sold at the store. ... It’s set up, without giving away his whole hand, in a way that if he ever opens up a Big Face Coffee shop, then that’s what he’s going to be able to do” (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 9/17). ESPN's Nick DePaula cites sources as saying that Butler’s Big Face Coffee clothing is "made by Lululemon" (TWITTER.com, 9/16).
