Twins Player Rep: Many MLBers Opposed To Postseason Bubble Plan

Rogers pointed out that zero players on the Twins roster have tested positive this seasonGETTY IMAGES

Twins P and MLBPA rep Taylor Rogers said that many of his teammates are "not in favor of MLB’s proposal to sequester the final eight playoff teams in quarantined 'bubbles' in California and Texas next month," according to Phil Miller of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Rogers said the Twins are "not alone in this stance," and they have "not heard of one team who’s happy with this." MLB's proposed bubble format is "so restrictive that family members would not be allowed to accompany players on what could be a three-week absence unless they quarantine for a week." But Rogers pointed out that players "will be tested for the coronavirus several times a week, and no Twins player has tested positive during the season." As such, Miller notes many players "don’t believe a quarantine is necessary." Rogers said that the Twins "received the proposal on Aug. 26, expressed their concerns and didn’t hear anything again from the two sides until last week." He added that an NBA-style total quarantine "was never presented to the players during negotiations over the 2020 season" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 9/14). In St. Paul, Jace Frederick reports there was "talk of a neutral site as an insurance policy, but that was it." Now, it is "essentially being imposed on players at the last minute, with no firm agreement in place" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 9/14).
