Audience Analysis: Univision Draws Strong Champions League Finale

Univision and TUDN wrapped up a delayed UEFA Champions League tournament with the fourth-best championship audience on record in the U.S., regardless of language. Bayern Munich's win over Paris Saint-Germain saw the networks combine to average 2.05 million viewers. Last year, Liverpool-Tottenham averaged 1.4 million viewer on the Spanish-language networks in early June. The audience for the English-language telecast on CBS Sports Network is unavailable, as that network remains unrated. Last year on TNT, the finale had 1.51 million English-language viewers.

SHORT & SWEET: CBS averaged 2.495 million viewers for PGA Tour coverage this season (14 events), marking the network's best figure since '14-15 (2.675 million) and third-best over the last decade (also behind 2.745 million in '12). The increase comes amid the impact of COVID-19 and despite the fact that Tiger Woods only appeared briefly in CBS' Saturday/Sunday windows for the '19-20 season. CBS' average also is up from 2.184 million viewers last season (17 events), and up from 2.423 million viewers two seasons ago. The network wrapped up its coverage on Sunday averaging 2.279 million viewers for the final round of The Northern Trust -- the first event of the FedExCup Playoffs. Dustin Johnson won the event by 11 strokes. Last year, CBS averaged 2.54 million for Patrick Reed's win. Two years ago, the final round averaged 2.75 million for Bryson DeChambeau's win in late August.

The NCAA Championship-winning coach shares his insight with SBJ’s Austin Karp on key hoops issues and why being well dressed is an important part of his success. Also on the show, Poynter Institute senior writer Tom Jones shares who he has up and who is down in sports media. Later, SBJ’s Ben Portnoy talks the latest on ESPN’s CFP extension and who CBS, TNT Sports and ESPN need to make deep runs in the men’s and women's NCAA basketball tournaments.
