Cowboys Announce "Safe Stadium Policy" For Fans Attending Games

Fans will utilize mobile-only ticketing methods and be seated in "pods" that encourage social distancingGETTY IMAGES

The Cowboys laid out an "extensive plan for fans attending games at AT&T Stadium," which they are calling "Safe Stadium Policy," according to Calvin Watkins of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Cash "will not be accepted at AT&T Stadium," and fans "will utilize mobile-only ticketing methods and be seated in 'pods' that encourage social distancing between groups of people who are not familiar with each other." The team is "requiring fans to put masks on when they get out of their cars or leave transportation that drops them off on the stadium property." AT&T Stadium's retractable roof "will be open, weather permitting, to allow air flow throughout the facility," and fans will have "'frictionless entry' to stadium parking lots and through stadium gates with the usage of 60 socially distanced metal detectors" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/14).

HOW MANY FANS? Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones said that he "didn't know how many spectators will be allowed to witness games inside the stadium," but the team "will follow the state of Texas guidelines," which currently stands at 50% capacity. In Ft. Worth, Clarence Hill Jr. writes the Cowboys' endeavor is "seemingly more aggressive than what other teams around the NFL are doing." The Giants, Jets, Eagles and Washington Football Team have "already announced that they will have no fans at games this season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic" (Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 8/14).
