Sources: Financial Concerns Could Force Bulls To Keep Boylen As Coach

There is a “growing thought that financial concerns the Reinsdorfs have about the 2020-21 season” will keep Bulls coach Jim Boylen and most of his staff with the team, according to sources cited by Joe Cowley of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. New Bulls Exec VP/Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas “seemed poised to move on from Boylen” after getting “getting some negative feedback from key Bulls players in the first month after taking the job.” He and GM Marc Eversley were said to be in the “process of using back channels to reach out” to possible replacements. However, Bulls Chair Jerry Reinsdorf last month in an interview with USA Today mentioned that his “financial losses with the Bulls and White Sox were somewhere in the ‘nine figures’’’ due to the pandemic. Boylen’s current $1.6M salary is “one of the lowest in the league for a head coach” (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 8/6).
