Binge Watching With ACCN Broadcaster Monica McNutt

McNutt with her new GoodSport show, "Onyx," hopes to inspire the next generation of women in sports businessMSG NETWORKS

This week, THE DAILY caught up with ACCN broadcaster and college basketball analyst MONICA MCNUTT to break down what's on her watch list. McNutt also is the host of GoodSport’s new series, “Onyx,” which launches this month. Some responses have been edited for clarity and brevity:

  • COCO GAUFF sat down with CHRIS FOWLER and there’s a short documentary called, “COCO GAUFF: THE LINES ARE THE SAME.” She was just talking about her journey in the tennis world, her victory over VENUS WILLIAMS at the 2020 Australian Open, her role models. That was really interesting to watch because Gauff is so young, but such a great perspective and she’s so incredibly grounded.
  • I’ve been with “INSECURE” since the very beginning. This year’s season, for me, the relationship between MOLLY and ISSA, I just resonated with the struggles they were going through. Even with your very best friends, as people get married, and get in serious relationships, and jobs change, you really have to make sure you’re pouring your energy into relationships that matter as life changes.
  • Can I put “ONYX: CELEBRATING BLACK WOMEN IN SPORTS” in the conversation? The time is just so right, and I’m so excited to be able to have these conversations with women in different avenues within sport, not all front-facing talent, not all just athletes, some in positions that I don’t know the average sports fan even considers as a pathway into the industry.
  • CHICAGO P.D.”! When DICK WOLFE announced the Chicago series, I was like, “Alright, that’s my man! I gotta go check it out.” I followed it from the start but there’s so much you forget after seven years of a show. If you’re an “SVU” or a “LAW & ORDER” fan, I’d definitely encourage you to go check out all the Chicago series.
  • We gotta get into “THE LAST DANCE.” I literally think that was everybody’s saving grace -- at least for sports folks -- when this shutdown started initially. For me, my first tangible memory of MICHAEL JORDAN is “SPACE JAM,” so it was super dope to get all those behind-the-scenes stories, details, nuggets.
