MLB Franchise Notes: Blue Jays Appear Headed To Buffalo

The Athletic's Dan Connolly cites sources as saying that the Blue Jays "will be playing in Buffalo for sure this year." The team most recently had been negotiating with Baltimore to play at Camden Yards (TWITTER.com, 7/24). Buffalo, the site of the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate, long has been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the team, but facilities at Sahlen Field, "specifically the lighting, are not up to par for MLB" (HARTFORD COURANT, 7/24).

NEXT BEST THING: Phillies fans “will be able to buy a cardboard cutout of their likeness that will be affixed to a seat at a game this season.” The cutouts cost $25 for season-ticket holders and $40 for anyone else, with “net proceeds going to benefit Phillies Charities.” The Phillies are “dedicating this week’s season-opening series to health-care workers on the front lines of COVID-19,” and cutouts in the Diamond Club seats behind home plate will feature "doctors, nurses, and staff from Nemours Children’s Health System and Jefferson Health" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/22). Meanwhile, the White Sox sold more than 1,500 fan cutouts for this weekend’s homestand at $49 each. The promotion “quickly sold out” and raised “more than $55,000 for Chicago White Sox Charities” (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/24).

VIDEO FEED: The Rays are “soliciting videos from fans to play at the Trop before and during games.” There are “specific assignments” for each submission, ranging from “singing the national anthem or ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame,’ to a between-innings race or stint as the dancing groundskeeper, to a basic, ‘Let’s Go Rays!’ cheer or being the kid who yells, ‘Play ball!’” (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7/23).
