Sources: A-Rod, J-Lo Meet With Krafts Over Citi Field, Willets Point

Sources said that the Kraft family is not interested in being part of Mets ownershipgetty images

Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez continue their bid to purchase the Mets, and on July 9, they flew to Foxborough to meet with Robert and Jonathan Kraft to "hammer out a partnership on stadium operations for Citi Field and the development of Willets Point around the ballpark," according to sources cited by Thornton McEnery of the N.Y. POST. Sources said that Rodriguez and Lopez were "accompanied on their trip by senior bankers from JPMorgan Chase's private wealth group," including Asset & Wealth Management Group CEO Mary Callahan Erdoes. Joining Erdoes, Rodriguez and Lopez was JP Morgan Private Bank Global Head of Lending Solutions Vincent La Padula. Sources said that the visit "lasted five hours," during which the Krafts showed Rodriguez and Lopez "around both Gillette Stadium and their adjoining entertainment, retail and hospitality complex, Patriot Place." The tour was "meant to show the potential new Mets owners what can be done with a stadium and the undeveloped land around it." Rodriguez and Lopez' vision of Mets ownership "involves turning Willets Point into a destination, leveraging Lopez's brand as an entertainer to book concerts and keeps fans in the arena after games at bars, eateries and shops." Sources said that the Krafts are "not interested in owning the Mets and would not join" Rodriguez and Lopez even as a "limited partner" (N.Y. POST, 7/17).
