EPL Clubs Hope For 30-50% Capacity By Start Of Next Season

Officials are supportive of the return of fans to EPL games, as long as social distancing is possiblegetty images

EPL clubs are "aiming to have fans back for the start of next season" with stadiums at 30-50% capacity, according to Ziegler & Hardy of the LONDON TIMES. All supporters "would have to wear face masks to reduce the COVID-19 transmission risk and grounds would open three hours before kick-off." The most likely start date for next season is Sept. 12 and the return of fans "would be implemented" for every EPL and EFL club. Politicians are "supportive of that timescale for the return of supporters and would like as many as possible to be allowed into stadiums, as long as social distancing can be maintained." Some EPL clubs have "held talks with companies about providing a medical health passport for supporters," but that "has not been part of the government-led discussions about the return of crowds." The first step of the return of fans "would be pilot events, possibly the Community Shield if it goes ahead and women's sports events including England cricket and the Women's Super League" (LONDON TIMES, 7/10).
