Revamped ESPN Radio Lineup Sees End Of "Golic & Wingo"

ESPN will debut a revamped radio lineup Aug. 17, featuring a new morning drive show and the return of Mike Greenberg to the medium. Greenberg, who will continue to co-host the morning show “Get Up” on ESPN, will take over the noon-2:00pm ET time slot. ESPN will shelve its “Golic & Wingo” morning show in favor of one that features Keyshawn Johnson, Jay Williams and Zubin Mehenti in the 6:00-10:00am time slot. “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” is being reduced from three hours to two in the 10:00am-noon slot, leading in to Greenberg’s show. Max Kellerman will host an early afternoon show (2:00-4:00pm), followed by Chiney Ogwumike and Mike Golic Jr. in the important afternoon drive slot (4:00-7:00pm). ESPN rounds out its weekday lineup with Sarah Spain and Jason Fitz co-hosting a show from 7:00-9:00pm, and Freddie Coleman and Ian Fitzsimmons co-hosting a show from 9:00pm-1:00am (John Ourand, THE DAILY).

New ESPN Radio Weekly Lineup

LOOKING FORWARD: In N.Y., Andrew Marchand writes ESPN is hoping the new trio of Johnson, Williams and Mehenti "does better than 'Golic & Wingo,' which will have its final program at the end of this month." Trey Wingo "failed in supplying the same energy as Greenberg" after "Mike & Mike" broke up three years ago. Golic and Wingo "both have contracts that are up at the end of the year," and their "futures are unclear." Meanwhile, the program with "maybe the most potential" is Ogwumike and Golic Jr. It "could be a young, fresh listen." The two "started off with a big advantage, having previously worked together and are friends." Ogwumike and Golic Jr. are "young, former athletes and figure to be hungry" (N.Y. POST, 7/8).

TO BE EXPECTED: On Long Island, Neil Best notes to "no one’s surprise," local sports radio's spring rations were "down across the board, given the lack of sports this spring and the fact fewer people were commuting to work and listening in their cars to WFAN and ESPN New York." In the stations’ "target demographic of men ages 25-54, WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti finished fourth among all New York-area stations from 6 to 10 a.m. with an average of 5.5% of the audience, and ESPN was a distant 20th at 1.4" (NEWSDAY, 7/8).
