NESN To Broadcast All Red Sox Games From Local Studio

Remy along with his broadcast partners are expected to call games from NESN's studiosGETTY IMAGES

NESN "currently intends to broadcast" all Red Sox games during the season restart, including those at Fenway Park, from its studios in Watertown, Mass., according to Chad Finn of the BOSTON GLOBE. Red Sox TV play-by-play man Dave O'Brien said, "I believe that we are going to do all games from NESN at this point, subject to change. What we're being told is that NESN will give us everything that we need, tons of monitors, different looks. There might actually be more access if players are going to be miked." O'Brien said that the "expectation is that analysts Jerry Remy and Dennis Eckersley will both join him -- at a safe social distance, of course -- in a three-man 'booth' for all 60 games." Finn noted it is "uncertain right now whether NESN will broadcast any 'spring training' games." Red Sox radio play-by-play man Joe Castiglione said that there have "not been any meetings yet about the final plan" in regard to radio broadcasts. But he "has been told that the plan right now is that the radio crew won't travel for road games." Meanwhile, Finn noted the "changes with the media are significant" for the shortened season, and "will have a noticeable effect on what viewers and listeners receive for a game broadcast." Among the new rules: Only 35 media members "per game will be allowed in the ballpark, including photographers but not including broadcasters" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/27).

NON-ISSUE: In N.Y., Bob Raissman noted there "has been some consternation from TV outlets over players not agreeing to wear a mike this season." Raissman: "It's not a big deal." With networks "using their usual field microphones and no noisy fans in either Yankee Stadium or Citi Field, sounds of players spontaneously yakking will still be picked up live" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 6/28).
