BC Chooses Pat Kraft As AD For Football, Fundraising Acumen

Kraft's fundraising efforts helped pave the way for upward of $55M in construction and renovation projectsMARC BRYAN-BROWN

Boston College yesterday named Pat Kraft AD, and the former Temple AD's football experience "ultimately was a deciding factor" in the school's decision, according to McInerney & Benbow of the BOSTON GLOBE. BC is looking to "build on the groundwork laid" by former AD Martin Jarmond -- "most recently with the hiring of football coach Jeff Hafley in January." Kraft, an SBJ "Forty Under 40" honoree in '16, was "integral in reshaping football" at Temple, "transforming the program into one that went to five straight bowl games." Kraft was "able to offer Temple two things it sorely lacked: fund-raising and exposure." In his four years at Temple, annual donations increased 75%, with "several large gifts to the football program." In '15, Temple hosted ESPN’s "College GameDay." Kraft's fund-raising efforts "helped pave the way for upward" of $55M in construction and renovation projects, which included the "Temple Sports Complex, locker room enhancements, a student-athlete lounge, nutrition centers, and practice facilities." Kraft since '18 has served on the NCAA’s Strategic Vision and Planning Committee and since '19 has represented the AAC on the NCAA’s D-1 Football Oversight Committee (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/4).

WANTED MAN: In Boston, Rich Thompson writes Kraft is "credited with transforming the Owls’ athletic programs through coaching hires, investment in facilities, student-athlete welfare and improved classroom performance." He was a "successful fundraiser at Temple, a skill he will need to continue Jarmond’s many ambitious programs." Jarmond was a "charismatic leader, tenacious fundraiser and the creator of Greater Heights, an elaborate strategic plan" to raise $150M in capital for BC athletics (BOSTON HERALD, 6/4). In Philadelphia, Marc Narducci notes Kraft was on the "short list for several AD jobs, including being "among three finalists" for the Maryland position in '18. Kraft also was "considered a strong candidate for the AD job at Indiana, which named Scott Dolson to the position in March" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 6/4).
