Bundesliga CEO Leads The Way In Bringing Pro Sports Back

Seifert has advised teams from around the world and the major U.S. sports on how to return to playGETTY IMAGES

German Football League CEO CHRISTIAN SEIFERT, whose organization oversees the Bundesliga, has "managed to put a professional sports league back on the field" the last two weeks, but his "challenge now is keeping it there," according to Joshua Robinson of the WALL STREET JOURNAL, who writes under the header, "The German Executive Who Showed Sports How To Come Back." With two "full rounds of play in the books, there are still seven to go, stretching into late June." Seifert knows that in order to complete them, "nearly everything needs to go right every single day." He said, "It's like starting a new season on a weekly basis. We do not know right now if corona wins in the end." But Robinson notes, "No high-profile league has road-tested a plan as effective as German soccer's." Now into its third week of play, the Bundesliga has "delivered three dozen games across the top two divisions, weathered a handful of positive tests, and is on track to finish in late June." Every other sport on the planet "has noticed" Seifert's success, as the long list of calls he has received for advice "includes teams from around the world and the major U.S. sports leagues." The "lesson he gives all of them is the same: 'You need to act very, very fast'" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 6/2).
