Wizards' John Wall Providing Rent Assistance To DC Families

Wizards G John Wall and his Family Foundation have partnered with DC in "launching the '202 Assist' program to help with rent assistance for families experiencing hardship during the pandemic." Wall, who grew up impoverished in a single-parent household, is "seeking the public's help in reaching a $300,000 donation goal." After June 22, the "final day for donations, 'hundreds' of residents" in DC's Ward 8 neighborhood will "receive rent relief." Wall's foundation will "team up with the DC Department of Housing and Community Development, Lydia’s House and Housing Counseling Services to identify qualifying families" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/27). 

RAYS ARE ALL IN: The Rays are joining the All In Challenge, auctioning off a "special game-day experience that includes throwing out the first pitch at a game, watching an inning" with Senior VP/Baseball Operations & GM Erik Neander and more. Bidding on the fanatics.com auction site "started at $5,000" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 5/27)....Reds C Tucker Barnhart started #TakeoutThursdays in mid-March, "donating $500 worth of gift cards for customers to use (up to $25) at Zionsville restaurants Amore Pizzeria Ristorante and Friendly Tavern." The movement, which started in Barnhart's native Indiana, has "quickly expanded to Ohio and parts of Kentucky." In two months, Barnhart "donated more than $5000 to restaurants while also raising money for healthcare workers, firefighters, Big Brother Big Sisters of Ohio and the Boys and Girls Club of Ohio" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/27). 

FILLING THE CHARITABLE VOID: TCU football coach Gary Patterson and his wife, Kelsey, are "throwing a virtual party to help raise money for local charities on June 4." The event is "geared towards helping charities that would have benefited from this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, which is being held without fans as the PGA Tour's first event back" from June 11-14 (Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/27).
