World TeamTennis Aiming For Limited Fans At Greenbrier In July

West Virginia, The Greenbriar's home state, has among the nation’s fewest cases of COVID-19wtt

World TeamTennis this morning confirmed that its 18-day '20 season will be held at The Greenbrier resort in West Virginia from July 12-30, with hopes of having some fans in attendance. However, WTT's announcement had few specifics on how the COVID-19 outbreak would be mitigated during the three weeks. WTT CEO Carlos Silva said, "Feedback from our players is that they want to play WTT and are comfortable in doing so in a safe environment, which is our number one priority. West Virginia has among the nation’s fewest cases of COVID-19." The WTT -- in '19 made up of nine teams with at least five players and a coach -- said it will follow the direction of local and state governments, as well as CDC safety protocols. At least three matches will be played each day at either The Greenbrier’s 2,500-seat tennis stadium, or a temporary indoor court being built by WTT. The league said that, in accordance with state health guidelines, it will allow up to 500 fans (20% capacity) to attend the outdoor matches. Ticket pricing and access points will be announced at a later date. All regular season and playoff matches will be televised or live-streamed through media partners CBS, CBS Sports Network, Tennis Channel, ESPN+ and/or WTT.com. WTT’s complete schedule and broadcast information will be announced at a later date. WTT this year is increasing its prize money to a record $5M and an added $1M awarded in WTT playoffs compensation, including a $500,000 bonus for the team that claims the championship on Aug. 2.
