IMS Works Scenarios For IndyCar-NASCAR Doubleheader July 4

Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said that Senior VP/Events Allison Melangton is "juggling 10 or more scenarios about how a Fourth of July Weekend, already made historic by the planned joint race that weekend between NASCAR and IndyCar that has never taken place before, might function," according to Nathan Brown of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb released his five-phase plan to put Indiana "Back on Track," an "all-too coincidental title, given the targeted start date for Phase 5 is July 4: the scheduled day of both IndyCar's GMR Grand Prix and the NASCAR Xfinity series' Pennzoil 150." The following day is "set to be the NASCAR Cup series' Brickyard 400." Meanwhile, another seven weeks beyond that date "sits the recently moved 104th running of the Indianapolis 500, planned for Aug. 23 and to be run outside the month of May for the first time since 1945." Boles said that he is "focusing on a best-case scenario: a 500 run as close to normal as possible." Boles: "Right now, that's definitely the focus. We still feel pretty good about August. That's one place, where for the Brickyard we have a whole bunch of scenarios, in August, this is the scenario: the Indy 500 in August" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 5/10).
