Roger Penske Hopeful Of More NASCAR/IndyCar Doubleheaders

Roger Penske hopes the NASCAR/IndyCar doubleheader slated for Independence Day weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is “just the start of things that we can do together as we go into 2020 and beyond.” The IndyCar GMR Grand Prix has been pushed back from its original May date to Saturday, July 4, while the NASCAR Cup Big Machine Vodka 400 is still slated to be run on Sunday, July 5. Penske believes fans are “going to see more” of the nation’s top two racing circuits holding events together. Penske: “It's a fan experience, and I think it will be very, very good from a TV perspective to see the different disciplines.” Meanwhile, the Indianapolis 500 is now scheduled for Aug. 23 after being moved from its traditional spot on Memorial Day weekend, and Penske said, “It's my goal to try to have that race with the same pageantry, the same worldwide audience and provide our fans with the best race ever” (“Lunch Talk Live,” NBCSN, 4/16).
