Kansas AD Bullish On School's Financial Situation Amid Crisis

Long said KU isn't yet to the point of asking coaches and other staff members to take pay cutsUniv. of Kansas

Kansas AD Jeff Long said that he was "confident that Kansas Athletics Inc., KU's nonprofit corporation, would complete the school year with a balanced budget," as well as avoid pay cuts, despite the financial impact of cancellations brought about by the COVID-19 crisis, according to Matt Tait of the LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD. When asked about measures such as Iowa State athletic department staff members and coaches taking pay cuts for one year to help offset the lost revenue, Long said, “That’s not where we are at this point, to have to consider those kinds of cuts. We’re in sound, strong financial shape.” While Long said that pay cuts were "not necessary at KU today, he noted that discussions were ongoing to make sure KAI was prepared for any unexpected changes." Since it is not yet known when the pandemic will end, Long added that KU was "exploring the idea of making changes" to the '20-21 budget "in case future cost-cutting moves became necessary" (LAWRENCE JOURNAL-WORLD, 4/3).
