Twins Giving Partial April Wages To Target Field Employees

The Twins are not hosing any games at Target Field due to the coronavirus pandemic, but their ballpark workers "will still get at least part of their wages," according to Phil Miller of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. The Twins are "doling out a significant portion" of the $1M pledge the team made to the workers. There are "roughly 800-900" workers in places like the ballpark's concession stands and cleaners, and "none of them are Twins employees." For such workers, the Twins are "setting up the Target Field Employee Assistance Fund, and making a 'significant' (though unspecified) contribution as seed money to help workers in need." Twins President & CEO Dave St. Peter said that within the next 10 days, the Twins "intend to contact them and begin taking online applications for those funds." Miller notes Delaware North "operates all concession stands at Target Field." The Twins have "committed to no layoffs among their 400 full-time Minnesota employees at least through April" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/2).

GIANTS AMONG US: MLB Giants owners and execs are "pledging an additional $700,000 in personal donations to support game-day employees who aren't working." Giants President & CEO Larry Baer said that the club also will "reach out to players about contributing." The Giants "established two benefit programs." Each worker "employed by outside companies and vendors, such as those at concession stands, parking attendants and on-site retailers, will be entitled to a one-time grant of $500 -- and about 2,000 people are expected to accept it" (AP, 4/1).
