Padres' Peter Seidler Remains Positive Amid Threatening Virus

Seidler (r) said MLB will still have the romance of a great Opening Day when it comesGETTY IMAGES

Padres General Partner PETER SEIDLER is a Type-1 diabetic who has "slugged through heavyweight prize fights with non-Hodgkins lymphoma -- once in 2011-12 and another about 2 1/2 years ago," so in these murky times, he is "mining positivity from even the most uncertain of circumstances," according to Bryce Miller of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. These are unsettling times for all, let alone "those considered at higher risk as the coronavirus shakes the globe." But that "isn't Seidler." Miller: "Not even close. He's the optimist." Seidler said, "I've got a calendar on my refrigerator at home that had opening day written in marker for Thursday, the 26th. We erased it. We'll probably have a family barbecue that day, count our blessings and see what the day brings. We'll still have the romance of a great opening day when it comes." Seidler said of his personal health, "For a long time, I've just looked at, you can control what you can control. With social distancing and things that apply to everybody, because I'm more at risk, I have heightened awareness of it." Seidler: "But I'm an optimist, so I find joy in every day" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 3/25).
