Hawks Sponsoring Pop-Up Grocery Stores To Fight Food Insecurity

Goodr pitched the idea of holding the stores for the Hawks, who were flush with food itemsHAWKS

Atlanta-based nonprofit Goodr "will hold five pop-up grocery stores" with "donations from the Hawks Foundation and State Farm," according to Sarah Spencer of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. The Hawks were left with 12,000 pounds of food they had ordered for games and events at State Farm Arena when the NBA suspended its season on March 11, so the team donated what it "could to those in need in Atlanta by partnering with Second Helpings and Goodr, which both focus on reducing food waste." Goodr Founder & CEO Jasmine Crowe "pitched the idea of holding pop-up grocery stores," and the Hawks "agreed, wanting to help underserved communities throughout the city" during the coronavirus pandemic. Within about 24 hours, a plan "started taking shape." For elderly people who "cannot make it to the pop-ups in person, Goodr is able to deliver food to homes." The Hawks and Goodr previously teamed up for pop-up grocery stores in January '19 (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 3/21).
