Bucs Confirm New Uniforms For '20, Will Unveil Design In April

The Buccaneers confirmed that they will unveil their new uniform design in April after "dropping clues with posters and social media posts," according to Rick Stroud of the TAMPA BAY TIMES. The update will mark the "third major change in uniform design for the Bucs since their inception" in '76. The team's last change, in '14, "wasn’t as well received" as its '97 re-work. The '14 uniform’s shoulders featured a "color bar and numbers that resembled an alarm clock with reflective trim." The team also added an all-chrome face mask to its helmets. The design was "never well received in or outside of Tampa Bay." Fox Sports ranked it No. 30 in the NFL, saying that it was a "'bastardized' merger of the original" '76 orange and white uniforms and the '97 pewter and red version. The all-red color rush uniforms initially created for "TNF" games beginning in '15 were a "little more popular." Something to "watch for with the redesign is whether the Bucs will wear white helmets again." In any case, new uniforms mean a "pretty big financial boost in new apparel sales" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 2/25)
