San Diego State Alters Terms Of Deal To Acquire Mission Valley Stadium

San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott said that San Diego State has "altered some of the terms of the deal to acquire 135 acres of the city’s Mission Valley stadium property," according to Jennifer Van Grove of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. Elliott in a memo on Tuesday informed city leaders via memo that SDSU recently "reworked a portion of the draft contract governing the sale and made material edits." She added that the parties are also "still working through a number of 'complex logistical issues' related to the site." Van Grove notes Elliott's memo included a document that "shows 1,582 suggested changes, ranging from minor adjustments to wording and section numbers, to more substantial sub-section deletions and additions." The memo does "not include an anticipated timeline for resolving the contractual disparities." The legal "finessing constitutes the final step in the school’s years-long endeavor to take over the city-owned land in Mission Valley where SDCCU Stadium operates today." Although council members and university officials are "aligned on the major deal points, many of the intricacies of the lengthy purchase and sale agreement are still a work in progress" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 2/20).
