NBCSN To Feature All-Female Crew For Upcoming NHL Telecast

Coyne Schofield will serve as the 'Inside the Glass' analyst for the all-female broadcast teamKENDALL COYNE SCHOFIELD

NBCSN will have an all-female crew "broadcast and produce coverage" for Blues-Blackhawks on March 8 at United Center, according to Scott King of NBC SPORTS CHICAGO. The broadcast will "coincide with International Women's Day and mark the first NHL game broadcast and produced solely by women in the U.S." Pac-12 Networks' Kate Scott will "handle play-by-play duties;" U.S. women's hockey F Kendall Coyne Schofield will "serve as the 'inside the glass' analyst;" and NBC Sports' AJ Mleczko will work as a game analyst. Kathryn Tappen will anchor studio coverage, with former Canada women's hockey player Jen Botterill "on hand." Producer Rene Hatlelid and director Lisa Seltzer will "lead game production" (NBCSPORTSCHICAGO.com, 2/16).

SPEAKING OUT: Jeremy Roenick spoke about his recent dismissal from NBC Sports after making inappropriate comments about his co-worker Tappen, saying, "At the time nobody thought it was bad what I was saying." Roenick: "Nobody was saying anything on social media. Five days went by. Nothing. ... Nobody complained until my boss, [NBC Sports Exec Producer] Sam Flood ... decided that (what I said) wasn't right, and we all know NBC has made a lot of mistakes covering up things and letting people slide, and all that stuff. I think this was their opportunity to make a statement, have a sacrificial lamb." Roenick: "I've already had five or six opportunities to go work someplace. ... Having my own show where I can be me, where I can bring sports and hockey and not be as muzzled, be as opinionated as I possibly can. That's definitely in the works. There are some really cool platforms out there that I'm looking at, or maybe I might start my own." More Roenick: "I didn't like to be muzzled, I didn't like to be controlled, and unfortunately, NBC tried to do that too much" (N.Y. POST, 2/15). In Toronto, Steve Simmons wrote the "cautionary tale" from Roenick's firing is this: "You have to be careful on podcasts" (TORONTO SUN, 2/16).
