NYCFC Continues Efforts To Combat Fan Hate, Violence
NYCFC CEO Brad Sims said that the club "banned numerous fans" in '19 as part of an ongoing effort to combat violence and hate during matches, adding that the organization will "continue to issue bans as necessary moving forward," according to Ryan Gerbosi of NEWSDAY. Reports of violence and racist chants within NYCFC supporters’ groups at Yankee Stadium have "plagued the club since its inaugural season" in '15. Last year, the Huffington Post "detailed the connections that specific NYCFC fans and supporters’ groups share with various extremist organizations." The story shed light on "racist chanting heard at matches" in '15 as well as "more recent attempts by some fans to intimidate others in the supporters' sections without making direct threats." Sims: "If we see any of that kind of activity going forward, it will be dealt with very seriously" (NEWSDAY, 2/14).
