Oregon State AD Confident Football Stadium Renovation Will Happen
Oregon State AD Scott Barnes said the proposed renovation of Reser Stadium has been "needed for a long time" and called it the "largest proposal in our school's history." Barnes appeared on John Canzano's "The Bald Faced Truth" podcast and noted officials have met with "over 50 contractors" interested in the project after an RFP was issued last month. He said, "We've got a lot of boxes to check, but we will get this project done. It's vital to our football program. It's vital to our university." Fundraising currently is underway for the renovation to the stadium initially opened in '53, and Barnes stressed OSU will not ask for state funds, as it "will be privately financed." A large amount of the cost is coming from "philanthropic gifts" and revenue from selling premium seats. Barnes said the renovation will allow OSU "to do what we call 'create scarcity and demand' around these new products," which will come from "repurposing some of the areas so that folks are viewing a game differently." Reser Stadium currently seats 43,363, and Barnes said, "We would anticipate coming down some (in capacity). ... It wouldn't be significant, but it would be a fair amount" ("The Bald Faced Truth," 2/6).
