Univ. Of Wisconsin Hosting First Hockey Tournament At Fiserv Forum

The Univ. of Wisconsin has "signed on for the first three years" of a four-team hockey tournament at Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum starting in the '20-21 season, according to Todd Milewski of the WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL. UW has a contract with New Jersey-based event promoter The Gazelle Group, which has produced men's basketball events in N.Y. and runs the CBI postseason tournament. This appears to be Gazelle's "debut in hockey" and will be the "first hockey event" scheduled for Fiserv Forum. Gazelle has "rights for naming and sponsorship and to select the teams and matchups for each season's event." Sources said that Arizona State, Clarkson Univ. and UConn "are joining" UW in the '20 field. UW is set to receive $20,000 for "each year of participating in the tournament." Gazelle -- not UW -- is "responsible for promotion, sponsorship and TV" (WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL, 2/2). In Milwaukee, JR Radcliffe noted Fiserv Forum has not yet hosted a hockey event, but it "does have the capability to generate a sheet of ice." A Disney on Ice showcase will run Feb. 13-15, marking the program's "second straight year at the venue" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/4).
