Earthquakes Sign Jersey Sponsor Deal With Tech Company Intermedia

The Earthquakes have signed a three-year jersey sponsorship deal with tech company Intermedia after going the "entirety of last season" without a kit sponsor, according to Robert Jonas of PRO SOCCER USA. California-based Intermedia will pay the Earthquakes an "undisclosed figure over the three years of the deal." The partnership also will feature a "collaboration on the business side whereby Intermedia will provide communications services throughout the organization." The first "substantive conversation in securing the sponsorship came last May, when Intermedia CEO Michael Gold sat together" with Earthquakes front office execs at a match. Meanwhile, Jonas reported Avaya Stadium signage was removed from the venue last week, and what will replace it as the naming-rights partner is "still to be decided." Avaya entered bankruptcy in '17. The venue now is being called Earthquakes Stadium, and team COO Jared Shawlee said a decision on naming rights "will be coming next." He also said that the club is "nearing a deal on a sleeve sponsor" (PROSOCCERUSA.com, 1/22). In San Jose, Randy Vazquez notes the Intermedia deal is "needed for a mid-level spending team that is trying to keep pace in a league that is striking big deals for some of the world's big names" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 1/23).
