Rockies radio announcer Jerry Schemmel "has lost his job" as part of layoffs from iHeartMedia that began this week, according to Patrick Saunders of the DENVER POST. KOA-AM is part of iHeartMedia, and Schemmel "was an employee" of the station rather than of the Rockies. He said that the team had "no part in the decision to lay him off." Saunders notes there was "no immediate word on Schemmel's possible replacement at KOA." Rockies play-by-play announcer Jack Corrigan said that KOA will "continue to utilize two broadcasters for Rockies games, adding that a decision on his new partner would have to be made quickly because spring training is approaching." KOA has "always employed two play-by-play men in the booth instead of a play-by-play man and an analyst" (DENVER POST, 1/17).
