A Missouri City, Texas, family is suing Redskins LT TRENT WILLIAMS after they said that one of his pit bulls "brutally mauled to death their pet dog." The family in the lawsuit requests that a Fort Bend County court "remove Williams' 'illegal, backyard Pitbull commercial enterprise,'" and prevent Williams from "continuing his alleged backyard business 'Silver Bully Gang.'" The family also "seeks monetary damages for the death of their pet" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 1/14).

MOUNTING A DEFENSE: Paramount Pictures said that it is "not responsible for the death of a football player who played an extra in 'THE LONGEST YARD' because making a movie about football isn't the same as playing the game." Paramount is "seeking to strike portions of the lawsuit that accuse it of negligence and fraud tied to" the '19 death lawsuit of DARRYL HAMMOND. In addition to a role as a stunt double in the movie, Hammond also "played football for 15 years in the Arena Football League" (N.Y. POST, 1/14).

NAMES: TCU football coach GARY PATTERSON yesterday was officially named American Football Coaches Association President, "accepting the gavel" from outgoing President FRANK SOLICH (Ft. Worth STAR-TELEGRAM, 1/14)....Arizona State extended the contract of football coach HERM EDWARDS for another two years, keeping him with the school through '24. Edwards' original contract was for five years, and with two already "expired, the additional two seasons puts him back up to a five-year run" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/14)....Basketball HOFer RICK BARRY was awarded "first place in the Pickleplex pickleball tournament" in Punta Gorda, Fla., over the weekend, "despite the fact that he's 75 years old" (S.F.
