Jaguars To Meet With Marrone, Caldwell Later This Week

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone will meet with ownership tomorrow, where he and GM Dave Caldwell will discuss their "plans for the direction of the franchise going forward," according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. It is expected that Caldwell "is going to be safe, but nothing is certain at this point." The plans that both Marrone and Caldwell "present to ownership have to align with their thoughts about the direction of the franchise, and if that's the case, then those guys will continue" ("Good Morning Football," NFL Network, 12/30). In Jacksonville, Gene Frenette notes whether Jaguars Owner Shad Khan gives Marrone a chance to "come up with a solution will be fleshed out in the next day or two." Khan no doubt will "want to know what Marrone intends to do about making 2020 better." If he "doesn't like the feedback he gets from Marrone or others in the organization, then he may lean toward a housecleaning." However, it is "all speculation until Khan is ready to make the call" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 12/30).

JUMPING THE GUN: The Jaguars this weekend denied an ESPN report that Marrone would be fired after the season. In Jacksonville, John Reid noted while it is "still a possibility that Marrone could be fired after three seasons," speculation is that Owner Shad Khan "could retain both" Marrone and Caldwell (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 12/28).
