WFAN's Mike Francesa Agrees To New Three-Year Deal

WFAN's Mike Francesa said he has signed a three-year deal that will keep him on the airwaves 90 minutes a day following his exit from his afternoon drivetime window earlier this month. Appearing on WJFK-FM's "Sports Junkies," Francesa said he is going to "do an hour a day on Radio.com" because they want to "build up" the site. He also will "do a half-hour a night" on WFAN. He added, "I can do whatever I want. I can do sports, I can do politics, I can do whatever I want on Radio.com." Francesa, who will continue to broadcast from a studio at his house, said he still "likes doing" the show and "when you have a town like New York, when you have so many teams to talk about ... what we do is just flip the page and go right to the next team" ("Sports Junkies," WJFK-FM, 12/16).

NEW ERA: In N.Y., Andrew Marchand cites sources as saying that Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts will be WFAN's "new afternoon duo." The team has been the "favorite" since Entercom learned that Bart Scott was leaving WFAN for ESPN Radio 98.7 N.Y. Sources said that Benigno and Roberts are "expected to agree to their new contracts by the end of the week that will earn them raises to work" the 2:00-6:00pm ET window. No deals are "yet officially signed, but enough progress has been made to believe they will be soon." The move "would push Maggie Gray," under contract through '20, "into middays." The "favorite to be her partner is Marc Malusis, whom she is working with this week" (N.Y. POST, 12/17).
