Nike apparel featuring Capitals LW Alex Ovechkin's "signature logo is available to fans" in the U.S., Canada and his native Russia "via a new online store" beginning this month, according to Scott Allen of the WASHINGTON POST. Nike created Ovechkin's logo "shortly after he signed an endorsement deal" with the apparel giant in '11. In '13, there was a "limited collection of clothing featuring Ovechkin's personal logo," and after his team won the Stanley Cup in '18, Fanatics "introduced an Ovechkin performance T-shirt with the logo." Otherwise, gear with the design "wasn't readily available." OvechkinStore.com, operated by Nike licensee Athlete Performance Solutions, "opened with eight items, including performance gear, short and long sleeve shirts, caps and a fleece hoodie," with prices ranging from $28-55. More apparel is "expected to be added in the coming months," as is "shipping to consumers in Europe." Ovechkin's agent, Bruin Sports Capital Exec VP & Principal David Abrutyn, said that Ovechkin was "involved" in the ecommerce platform's "design process, just as he was with the creation of his logo." Depending on how online sales go, Abrutyn added that "he would be open to working with Fanatics," which operates the Capitals' team store at Capital One Arena, to "make part of the new collection available to fans in the arena" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/5).
