New NBA City Edition Jersey Designs A Mix Of Familiar, Unique Looks

Multiple NBA teams have "officially unveiled their new" City Edition jerseys for this season, some of which will be "familiar to fans, while others look completely different from anything seen before," according to ESPN.com (11/20). In Sacramento, Jason Anderson notes the Kings will "wear red uniforms for the first time in their 35-year history" in the city next weekend. The "special-edition jersey again has 'Sactown' written across the chest, but this year it is almost all red with white lettering and baby blue and gray outlines." In their first years in Sacramento, the Kings "wore baby blue uniforms with a red and white trim -- the same color scheme used in their City Edition uniforms the past two seasons -- but they have never worn red as a primary color" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/21).

DOUBLE DUTY: In Minneapolis, Kent Youngblood notes the T'Wolves' City Edition jerseys have a "clean blue look with 'MSP' on the front in a nod to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul." The T'Wolves last year had "very popular Prince-themed City Edition jerseys, with purple lettering and special typography meant to honor the late musician." This year's version "appears to be getting favorable early reviews on social media as well" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 11/21).

FEELING BLUE: In Chicago, Dan Santaromita noted the Bulls' City Edition jerseys this season have "so much blue." The powder blue jerseys are "inspired by Chicago's flag, but only in color." Last year's version "featured the six-pointed stars across the chest with horizontal powder blue stripes above and below the stars, just like the flag." Santaromita: "This year's version is just powder blue. Everywhere." Even the logo has "blue as the primary color with red accents instead of the typical black" (NBCSPORTSCHICAGO.com, 11/20).

DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE: The Mavericks' new City Edition jerseys received mixed reviews, but ESPN's Clinton Yates said while the "lettering itself could be qualified as whack," the fact that it is even on the jersey shows "where we've come in terms of artists involved" with teams. Yates: "Good on the Mavs for getting people involved from the community that actually make something that represents a lot of people who watch this game." However, ESPN's Tracy McGrady said, "Bugs Bunny should be in that uniform" ("The Jump," ESPN, 11/20).

AROUND THE LEAGUE: ESPN's Yates said he that liked that the Rockets "melded their look" with their City Edition jerseys, which have "been very simple for a long time." Yates: "H-Town represents everything that Houston is." Yates said for the Bucks' uniforms, "People can't seem to handle the words 'Cream City' on the same jersey." He added there is "not enough production value" on the jerseys. Yates: "I need more outline, I need more detail" ("The Jump," ESPN, 11/20). In Michigan, Ansar Khan noted the Pistons' City Edition uniform "borrows its design from last season's black and gray version with a red base and blue accents" (MLIVE.com, 11/20).
