Katz Group's Frankfurt Arena Will Be Entertainment Venue First

Katz Group, which owns of the Oilers, have "set their sights" on Frankfurt, Germany, to "build a 23,000-capacity indoor arena, which would be the second largest in Europe," according to Dustin Cook of the EDMONTON JOURNAL. German-born Katz Group CEO Jurgen Schreiber said that there is a "need in Frankfurt for a larger event venue," and the Canadian company was approached "based on the success of Rogers Place and the surrounding Ice District" in Edmonton. Katz Group is working with local Frankfurt partners to build The Dome, an "indoor event and sports arena adjacent to the city's airport." Schreiber said that "sports, such as hockey and basketball, will serve as a secondary use to concerts and events." Pro teams are "currently in talks to call the arena their new home." Schreiber said that if "everything goes as planned," The Dome "should be in operation within five years." He added that "building and operating arenas will continue to be a main focal point" for Katz Group, "focusing strongly on sports and entertainment" (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 11/18).
