ABC Announces "Ultimate Surfer" Competition Series For WSL
ABC has commissioned "Ultimate Surfer," a new eight-episode reality show in which the world's "greatest up-and-coming surfers will train and live together while battling it out at the World Surf League's surf ranch in Lemoore, Calif.," according to Lorraine Wheat of VARIETY. The series "emerges from the co-development partnership between Lionsgate's Pilgrim Media Group and WSL Studios" (VARIETY.com, 11/13). Pro surfer Kelly Slater will be "on-air talent" for the show, which will see production begin next year. UFC President Dana White is an exec producer on the project (BROADCASTINGCABLE.com, 11/13). The new show will "eventually select a male and a female surfer to join" the WSL World Tour. There will be "weekly eliminations and a grand final with two men and two women" (SURFERTODAY.com, 11/14).
