Predators To Open Next Season In Prague As Part Of NHL Global Series
The Predators will open the '20-21 NHL season in the Czech Republic, as well as "play an exhibition game in Switzerland as part of the NHL Global Series," according to Juan Buitrago of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. The Preds will "complete their training camp in Bern, Switzerland, where they will play an exhibition game against SC Bern at PostFinance Arena." The team will then "open the upcoming season" against the Bruins at Prague's O2 Arena. The '20 NHL Global Series marks the "fourth straight year and ninth season overall that the NHL has traveled to Europe to play regular-season games" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 11/9). In Boston, Kevin Paul Dupont noted for the "second time in three years, the Bruins next September will head overseas for a portion of training camp and then open" their upcoming season in the Czech Republic, home to Bruins C David Krejci and RW David Pastrnak. The Bruins will begin their September '20 training camp in Brighton, and then "late in camp will move to Mannheim, Germany." Prior to "shifting to Prague, they'll face Adler Mannheim in an exhibition game at SAP Arena" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/9).
CLOSE TIES: The Blue Jackets as part of the '20 NHL Global Series will play two regular-season games in Helsinki, Finland, and in Columbus, Brian Hedger wrote the Blue Jackets are a "perfect fit to be showcased" in the country because they have a Finnish GM in Jarmo Kekalainen and two Finnish players. The dates of the games were not released, but the Blue Jackets and Avalanche will "meet up in the fall" after the Bruins and Predators open the season with their game in Prague. This will be the Blue Jackets' "second time playing regular-season games in Europe," after participating in the '10 NHL Premiere Games in Stockholm, Sweden. The Finland games will "not be Kekalainen's first taste of the NHL's international flavor," as from '09-11 he "hosted games at Hartwell Arena" in his role as KHL Helsingin Jokerit GM (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 11/9).
