Packers Bring Overwhelming Fan Presence To Chargers' Stadium

The Chargers defeated the Packers at Dignity Health Sports Park, but it "sounded like the game was being played at the Packers' home field in what was the latest instance of a visiting team having an overwhelming fan presence at the stadium," according to Josh Peter of USA TODAY. The pregame tailgate yesterday was also a "total landslide," as the Packers' green and gold were the "dominant colors" (USA TODAY, 11/4). In Milwaukee, JR Radcliffe writes the Chargers "haven't seemed to gain much of a hometown following" since relocating from San Diego in '17. CBS' Tracy Wolfson tweeted before yesterday's game, "Right before kickoff here in LA and looking like 80% packers fans" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 11/4).

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: In L.A., Bill Plaschke notes the Chargers' "dominant 26-11 victory" proved they are not "some running joke, but an actual contending-caliber football team that deserves to play in a place that appreciates them." Plaschcke: "But that place is not Los Angeles. It was a nationally televised wonder for the Chargers and a shame for the NFL, the football world witnessing Sunday's most brilliant home-field performance coming from a team without a home." The Green Bay faithful were "overwhelming." The Chargers have "endured three seasons of this nonsense, their failure to capture a Los Angeles audience resulting in nearly every home game feeling like a road game." Chargers WR Keenan Allen: "Felt like an away game, every week, it is what it is at this point." Plaschke: "It's a terrible look for the league, and embarrassing look for the city." Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said that the visiting crowd was "so loud, it might have actually made the Packers complacent." The Chargers "hope the atmosphere will change when they move into giant new SoFi Stadium next year, a place with more space and cheaper tickets." Plaschke: "Here's guessing NFL owners will give the Chargers a couple of years in SoFi Stadium to find their fans" (L.A. TIMES, 11/4).
