The Baylor Board of Regents has approved $8.6M of funding for the first phase of the university's new basketball arena, which also "includes money for design, infrastructure, space programming" for the Basketball Pavilion and Basketball Performance Centers and "development of a construction schedule," according to Tommy Witherspoon of the WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD. The architect for the project is K.C.-based AECOM, and the projected budget for the new facilities is $105M. The project "includes a 150,000-square-foot fieldhouse with a seating capacity of 7,000, less than the Ferrell Center’s 10,400." There also will be "practice and office facilities for women's and men's basketball programs and shared sports performance facilities" (WACO TRIBUNE-HERALD, 11/1).

ALL THE BELLS & WHISTLES: In Dayton, David Jablonski noted workers at the Univ. of Dayton are "putting the finishing touches" on the three-year, $76.2M upgrade to UD Arena. The 50-year-old venue is "now brand new in many respects. While fans are "getting their first glimpses of the arena, UD has continued to use the renovations in recruiting." Jablonski: "Time will tell just how much it helps" (DAYTON DAILY NEWS, 11/2).
