USC Expected To Name Cincinnati AD Mike Bohn To Same Role

Bohn is not regarded as an elite fundraiser but is super-savvy about public relations and marketinggetty images

USC is expected to name Univ. of Cincinnati AD Mike Bohn to the same position, which would be a "good hire," as Bohn is "generally well regarded within the industry and has a solid list of accomplishments," according to Jon Wilner of the San Jose MERCURY NEWS. USC "chose someone who won't be beholden to the USC way." Bohn "isn't regarded as an elite fundraiser but is super-savvy about public relations and marketing." USC needed a "master of messaging and administration," and Bohn will "help immensely in those regards" (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 11/2). THE ATHLETIC's Feldman, Williams & Morales noted Bohn will head to L.A. "less than two months after Lynn Swann resigned" as USC AD. Bohn spent almost six years at Cincinnati, where his term was "highlighted by a string of successful and promising coaching hires" and upwards of $170M in facility upgrades. Bohn also spent eight years as the Univ. of Colorado AD, so he is "familiar with the Pac-12." Bohn will become the ninth AD in USC's history (THEATHLETIC.com, 11/1). In L.A., Bill Plaschke wrote, "You ever heard of Mike Bohn? Me neither, and that's a good thing." Bohn is a "complete stranger," and he is "everything that recent former USC athletic directors were not." The school "needs a fresh set of eyes, and this could be it" (L.A. TIMES, 11/2).
