Sporting KC Expects Lucrative New Kit Sponsorship After '20 Season

Sporting KC has worn the Ivy Investments logo since '13, the same season the team won the MLS Cupsporting KC

Sporting KC "expects a big haul" as it negotiates a new kit sponsorship for '21, as current sponsor Ivy Investments will let its deal run out after the '20 season, according to Kevin Hardy of the K.C. STAR. The kit deal is Sporting KC's "most lucrative sponsorship, outpacing even stadium naming rights." Sporting KC has worn the Ivy Investments logo since '13, the same season the team won the MLS Cup. The team has a growing TV audience, and President & CEO Jake Reid said that the "value of the jersey sponsorship will likely increase" as a result. Sporting KC will work to "sell two spots on its jerseys," and the club "believes it has a good story to tell." Despite a "lackluster season" and missing the playoffs, team "revenues continued to grow." Reid said, "We've had our best year every year for the last ... probably seven or eight years running now." Reid added that the team's "strong performance in youth soccer, non-soccer events and retail sales have helped grow revenues." Even ticket sales "remained fairly strong through a tough season." Ivy Investments announced plans in '14 to extend its sponsorship with the team through '22. But company leaders now say that they are "realigning their marketing efforts" (K.C. STAR, 10/30).
